ABOUT
WOODLAND
KYOTO

Everyone that comes to Japan knows of Kyoto city, the ancient capital of Japan.
Kyoto, which is visited by Japanese and international tourists in search of tradition and culture, has another less known side.
This is the woodlands of Kyoto. Water flows from the source here through Arashiyama. It's deep forests lead to Kinkaku-ji Temple.
Kyoto's woodlands are less of a place for tourism, and more of a place to experience true Japanese life.
We at Woodland Kyoto DMO are here to help you truly discover Kyoto's woodlands through real experiences.

KAMEOKA

20 minutes by train from Kyoto Station. This is the gateway to the woodlands of Kyoto, where the culture of the city and rural areas mix.

NANTAN

On this vast land, you can experience a wide variety of nature, from quiet villages along the foot of mountain forests to full-fledged mountain forests.

KYOTAMBA

Woodlands make up 83% of Kyotamba. Taking advantage of its rich nature, the town has a thriving agriculture with bountiful production of chestnuts, mushrooms, black soybeans, and other crops.

FUKUCHIYAMA

A castle town that has flourished as a hub of commerce and transportation in the northern Kansai region since ancient times. Important historical sites and religious or spiritual objects can be found in the mountains that spread throughout the countryside.

AYABE

The town has grown along with the area's silk production since the Nara period. Now, it is seeing an increasing number of people moving here from the city in search of the Satoyama lifestyle.

KEIHOKU

The town has long made a living through forestry, beginning with the production of Kitayama cedar, which is an essential material for Sukiya (tea-ceremony arbor) architecture.
